FLORARIUM
CHAPTER III: SPRING DOES NOT KNOCK
“Spring does not knock, she comes confident.
Like smoke she enters every cracks,
She has lips of flesh and hair of wheat
What fear, what desire that she takes you by hand,
What a fear, what a desire that she carry you far away.
One of my favourite song about spring, written by the singer and poet Fabrizio De’ Andrè and inspired to the poem “Trainor, the druggist” from E.L. Masters.
It speaks about a man who was afraid of love and even if he wish for it, he never surrender to the power of “Spring” and he took refuge in what he was sure to know: chemistry.
In the end he died alone during a wrong experiment.
We are like Trainor: we long for love but we are so often too afraid to look for it or to follow it when we met it.
Sometimes we even refuse it.
But love, or spring, as in the song, does not wait or regard what we think or want. It comes, certain and confident and we can’t but stay amazed in front of its Beauty and its power.
